Man, I love live music. There’s nothing better than checking out a band for the first time and leaving a fan. That being said, the featured band for the next two weeks is an alternative rock band from Waterloo called GOLD FINCH.
For fans of: Brand New, Nirvana, Radiohead
I had the pleasure of catching these guys a few weeks ago at The Baby G opening for PINE (another great band from Ottawa) in Toronto. My intention was to catch PINE, but wanted to get there as soon as I could in hopes catching GOLD FINCH. I kept seeing their name around so I thought this would be a great opportunity to catch both bands for the first time. Luckily I got there just in time and caught two great sets.
GOLD FINCH reminded me very much of 90’s alternative rock – a sound I didn’t realize I missed. Their tunes were grungy at times but then very mellow, relaxing, and dare I say…emotional. You get caught up in it, and it’s difficult to not bang your head to the tunes. Well done, fellas…well done.
They recently released a little self-titled EP containing two bangers. Have a listen:
It’s also worth checking out their Forlorn EP. I had their tune "How I've Been" on repeat for some time and quite glad they played it:
I’m happy to see that things are on the up for GOLD FINCH as they are embarking on an Eastern Canada tour this August with Corbin Giroux (of RARITY) and #Hope, an internet outreach project. Check the dates here and go see them if they happen to pass by your town!
Even sweeter…they’re playing the rebirth of KOI Music Festival in Kitchener on September 16th with Comeback Kid, Silverstein and many other great acts!
